UAE residents will have another long weekend next month? Islamic New Year likely date.
Residents of the UAE are expecting another public holiday on eve of the Islamic New Year, which will fall next month (August) and might be a reason for residence to enjoy another extended long weekend in 2021.
According to the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department, the Islamic New Year is expected on Tuesday, August 10, 2021. But if the current month of Zul Hijjah lasts 29 days, then the Islamic New Year will be marked on Monday, August 9. Muharram is the first month of the Islamic calendar.
The Islamic New Year is based on the moon sight unlike the Georgian calendar, the date is subjected to change depending on the sighting of the moon.
The UAE’s public and private sectors will enjoy the next official holiday in August on the eve of the Islamic New Year.
It was expected that the Islamic New Year would begin on Thursday, August 12, at beginning of this year, thus giving UAE residents a three-day long weekend. However, the UAE will not observe a long weekend on the eve of the Islamic New Year, due to changes in moon sightings.
